Fly Over Australia's Only Dark Sky Reserve
Did you know we can fly you across Australia’s only International Dark Sky Reserve, right here in our backyard? The River Murray Dark Sky Reserve spans over 3,200 square kilometers and boasts a Light Measurement Scale reading of 21.9, making it one of the world’s most extraordinary celestial sanctuaries.
While we don’t fly at night, our daytime flights offer breathtaking views of the reserve and the Mighty Murray River. From above, you’ll appreciate the expansive, untouched landscapes that keep this region free of light pollution.
Departing from Lyndoch, we soar over the northern Barossa, showcasing historic Dry Stone Walls, a testament to the area’s early settlers. Crossing the vast plains toward Blanchetown, we join the Murray River and marvel at the iconic BIG BEND, featuring the river’s tallest cliffs, rich in fossils and wildlife.
Continuing along the river, we pass the ancient Shell Hill near the Marne River, where deposits of oyster shells date back over 5 million years. We then track past Cambrai into the Southern Barossa, following the historic reservoir system. Highlights include the Warren, South Para, and Barossa Reservoirs, with the famed Whispering Wall—a marvel of acoustic engineering and local history.
As we descend into the Hoffnungsthal Valley, the remnants of an 1847 German settlement come into view, a poignant reminder of the area’s rich history. This valley, once prone to flooding, now thrives under the stewardship of the Kies family, spanning six generations.
This scenic flight is the ultimate way to uncover the wonders of the Barossa and beyond, blending natural beauty with deep cultural heritage.
